 Faster and more dependable internet on flights has been a long time coming, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk is pushing to make it happen. According to sources, Musk now intends to use the Starlink satellite internet service to provide in-flight wifi. Musk's space company, SpaceX, is said to be in discussion with a number of airlines to provide in-flight Wi-Fi via the Starlink satellite internet service.Google teamed up with SpaceX not long ago to obtain Starlink's high-speed broadband Internet for its infrastructure.


On Wednesday, SpaceX's VP of Starlink and commercial sales told a panel at the Connected Aviation Intelligence Summit that the business is working on providing passengers with in-flight WiFi. “We're working on our own aviation product...The Verge cited him as stating, "We've already done some demonstrations and [are] looking to get that product finished to be put on planes in the very near future." While Hofeller did not say when Starlink will start providing in-flight WiFi, he did say that an announcement will be made “hopefully sooner rather than later.”


For the uninitiated, airlines already use satellite broadband providers for inflight Wi-Fi, but current services rely on satellites in far-off orbits. The Starlink satellite, on the other hand, orbits closer to the ground, which could be one of the main reasons why the Starlink's speed is faster and more steady than other in-flight services.


In 2018, SpaceX began deploying Starlink satellites to boost broadband internet access, mainly in rural areas. Earlier this year, Musk started taking pre-orders for his Starlink Internet service.Pre-orders for Starlink were available for $99. Starlink broadband has received over 500000 pre-orders, according to the business.
