Virat Kohli will approach the World T20 final as if it were any other game, and he will not put himself under unnecessary pressure: VVS Laxman
VVS Laxman, a legendary batsman, expressed confidence on Monday that Virat Kohli will not succumb to pressure in the World Test Championship final and will adhere to the formula that has served him so well in the past. India's captain's bat, according to Laxman, will put the Asian giants in a commanding position against New Zealand.
In the maiden edition of the WTC, India will face World No. 1 Test team New Zealand in the final on June 18 in Southampton. Virat Kohli has taken great delight in the way India has played Test cricket over the years, and winning the Ageas Bowl would be a fitting monument to the team's achievements.
It's also a chance for India to win their first ICC title under Virat Kohli's captaincy. It won't be easy, though, against an in-form New Zealand team, which is coming off a dominant series win over England in England earlier this week.
VVS Laxman told Sports Today that India will keep to their strengths against New Zealand, with Kohli trying to lead from the front with the bat.
"He should approach the game like any other game," Laxman added, "because Virat is someone who prepares incredibly well for each challenge he is going to face but doesn't put himself under unnecessary strain."
"Yes, it's the first WTC final, but he understands that he has a fantastic opportunity to carry the ICC trophy not only as a batter, but also as a leader."
