EA has been hacked, and the source code has been stolen.
The attackers claimed to have obtained source code for games such as FIFA 21 and the Frostbite game engine, which is used as the foundation for a number of other high-profile titles.
Vice was the first to report on the hack, claiming that 780GB of data had been stolen.
The incident did not result in the theft of any player data, according to EA.
The company is one of the world's largest game developers. It creates or publishes big franchises like Battlefield, Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, The Sims, and Titanfall, as well as a wide range of annual sports games.
"We're looking into a recent network intrusion in which a small amount of game source code and related tools was stolen," an EA official stated in a statement.
"No player data was obtained, and we have no reason to believe that player privacy has been jeopardized," she continued.
The corporation asserted that security has already been upgraded and that there would be no "effect on our games or our business."
Law enforcement has been called as well.
According to EA, the "network intrusion" was not a ransomware attack and occurred lately.
Vice said in its investigation that it has seen screenshots of the perpetrators' cyber forums, where they are selling the stolen data.
